ITAN is the association of over 350 Information Technology driven companies in Nigeria. It was founded in 1991 to promote IT literacy and penetration in Nigeria; and to promote members’ interest in the area of trade, public policy formulation and negotiations with government on IT policy matters. ITAN in 2002 joined other stakeholders to form the society of all IT professionals in Nigeria - the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), in which it remains a major stakeholder. ITAN's vision is to engender a new Nigeria powered by Information Technology; while its mission is to pursue with vigor and accomplish an Information Society in Nigeria using diverse and cutting-edge tools and means. ITAN was on 1st December 2008 admitted into the Vienna, US based World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) to represent the Nigerian IT and Services Industry. WITSA resolution for the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Hyderabad, India the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) believes that the Internet must continue to thrive in an open and competitive marketplace unencumbered by unnecessary regulations. WITSA supports private sector initiatives to develop and deliver market based solutions to the challenges faced by the Internet and its users. A resolution with this message for the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) was adopted at the WITSA global public policy meeting in Hyderabad, India on the December 2, 2008 |

ITAN Abuja Chapter was founded and inaugurated in 1995 by the then Mr Jimson Olufuye with ample support from the then Gen. Secretary Mr Chris Uwaje. Mr Olufuye was Chairman from 1995 till 2000. In 2000, Mr Rommy Martin-Odo succeeded him. In 2003, Mr Obi Obiazor took over. In 2006, Mr Olu Joseph of Sephix Ltd was elected as Chairman. On the expiration of his term and at the just concluded elections, Ms Ola Akinyemi, CEO of Omar Ventures Ltd was elected as the new Chairman of the Abuja Chapter of ITAN for the 2009-2011 term. She is the first woman to occupy the post. |

At the just concluded 22nd National Conference and 30th Anniversary of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), the Information Technology (Industry) Association of Nigeria (ITAN), a major interest group in the Society announced its partnership with Mandriva West Africa for Mandriva Linux (ML) an Open Source Operating and Application software on all the PCs, laptops, notebooks and thumbdrives for its Old Students’ Computer In School Initiative (OS-CISI) now branded “OSPC” ie Old Students’ Personal Computer. |

The Old Students Computer In School Initiative (OSCISI) was rebranded Old Students Personal Computers (OSPC) by stakeholders at the just concluded 22nd National Conference and 30th Anniversary of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS).
